As the days get shorter, the green pigment in leaves, called chlorophyll, is no longer produced. This causes the leaves to become a beautiful rainbow of yellows, oranges and reds.

Do you feel inspired by the leaves changing color all around you? Let’s make a leaf lantern!

Materials

  • Empty glass jar

  • Mod Podge or decoupage sealer

  • Paper plate or painter’s palette

  • Sponge brush

  • Colorful leaves

Instructions

  1. The day before you want to make your lantern, go outside and collect leaves that have fallen on the ground. Press the leaves between thick books to flatten them.

  2. Empty and clean your glass jar. Let it dry completely.

  3. Pour some Mod Podge onto a paper plate or painter’s palette.

  4. Use the sponge brush to paint one side of your leaf with Mod Podge.

  5. Gently place the Mod Podge side of the leaf onto the glass jar.

  6. Continue until your jar is full of leaves! You can overlap leaves, cut leaves or create patterns. Be creative and have fun!
