Water has many important properties. One is cohesion, which is water’s ability to stick to itself. This bonding of water molecules is important. Cohesion is the reason for surface tension, another important property of water. It helps roots absorb water. It is also why we can observe neat phenomenon like a large drop that seems way too big to be clinging to a leaf.
This experiment with cohesion is fun and simple. All you need is an empty carton, a nail to make holes in the carton and water.
Can you get all three streams to braid and flow together? Let the discovery continue. What happens if you change the size of the holes or where they are placed? Can you get four streams to braid?
